Stored-pressure fire extinguishers are required to be hydrostatically tested according to intervals and procedures specified by the NFPA and DOT (Department of Transportation). Our licensed technicians have been trained to determine whether an extinguisher needs to be removed from service for its required hydrostatic test.

Put simply, a hydrostatic test is a pressure test conducted in order to assess a pressure vessel or a stored-pressure fire extinguisher's ability to safely hold contents under pressure. The test always includes internal and external visual examination of the cylinder. If the cylinder shows evidence of dents, mechanical injury, or corrosion, it will likely be condemned.

If an extinguisher passes hydrostatic testing, it will be recharged according to procedures outlined under "Recharging" and labeled according to NFPA and DOT requirements.
