City Wide Fire Equipment portable fire extinguisher technicians are licensed by the Chicago Fire Department and State of Illinois Fire Marshal. They are officially certified as required in the standards set forth by NFPA 10 2007, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers. When performing annual maintenance according to NFPA 10, our technicians ensure:

  • The extinguisher is located in its designated place
  • There are no obstructions to access or visibility
  • Operating instructions on the nameplate are legible and facing outward
  • Safety seals and tamper indicators are not broken or missing
  • Extinguisher is at its proper gross weight as specified on the nameplate
  • There exists no obvious physical damage, corrosion, leakage, or clogging
  • Pressure gauge reading is in the operable range
  • Required labeling is in place
  • DOT compliance
  • OSHA compliance

The old rag and tag method is obsolete. The above steps have been established by the NFPA because they are necessary and required to reasonably ensure the fire extinguisher is operable.

City Wide adheres to NFPA standards each step of the way. Beware of companies offering their services for pennies, just to provide you with a tag and seal -- making up the rest with unnecessary recharge, testing and parts. We will provide you with fair and realistic pricing for your annual maintenance --eliminating unnecessary hidden charges.

We require no contract with our clients. We stand fully behind our work. If you care about honesty, integrity and the thoughtful manner in which your fire prevention services are conducted, you’ll be satisfied with us.
